We’re looking for STUDENT Production Team leads for July – September 2018 to work on our 30 under 30 production of Hair for 30 hours a week at $14/hour

As these 6 positions are made possible through the Canada Summer Jobs program of the Federal government, to be eligible to apply, you must be:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Student Musical Director

Role & Responsibilities – Responsible to the ACT board & Artistic Director. The work of the musical director is central to the production of the musical, since it is the musical director who ensures that the band and actors are prepared and sounding well together.


  • Works with Director and ACT Board to arrange rehearsal schedule
  • Rehearses and prepares the actors
  • Prepared to spend the necessary rehearsal and preparation time
  • Submit all program information (Musical Director’s bio, pit band information) to the ACT Board three weeks prior to opening of the production
  • Recruit and hire musicians
  • Be in constant communication with the Director & ACT Board about all aspects of the production and if any problems or concerns arise
  • Work within the budget outlined by the ACT Board

Student Rehearsal Accompanist

 PRIMARY DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Provides piano accompaniment for voice and instrumental rehearsals and private lessons, and all performances.
  • Provides piano accompaniment for auditions.


  • Performs other duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:

  • Sight reading skills needed.
  • Thorough knowledge of vocal and instrumental score of the musical Hair
  • Broad knowledge of musical styles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, ACT Mentors, and ACT Board Members
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to represent ACT in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

Student Multimedia Creative Director - Video

PRIMARY DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Will work with the Marketing Manager & director creating video content within the production and to promote the production of Hair.
  • Create promotional videos which will attract attention, and generate interest and engagement on a continuous and consistent basis for ACT’s social media platforms and website.
  • Create video content to enhance the production experience by bringing a new look and feel to the 50th anniversary of the musical Hair.
  • Build brand awareness by assisting with creation and implementation of various and numerous social marketing strategies
  • Highly creative thinking and experience with taking creative ideas and translating them to visual presentations and pieces.


  • Experience with all aspects of video production
  • Strong Adobe Premiere Pro/After Effects editing skills
  • Design sensibility and principles.
  • Savvy in social media and keeps up with ongoing social trends
  • Knowledge/experience with online video platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, etc)
  • Knowledge/experience with keying, compositing, and sound mixing
  • Knowledge of video compression/exports.
  • Knowledge/experience with lighting and green screen setup
  • Knowledge of working with various cameras (Canon Cinema EOS, DSLR, GOpro etc)
  • Photography skills are not mandatory but are an asset
  • Keen interest in story telling; demonstrated ability in storytelling for web, audio, and video.

Student Graphic Designer & Marketing Assistant


  • Collaborate with ACT’s Marketing Director and Artistic Director to develop monthly campaigns and marketing materials
  • Support ACT’s ongoing interactive and visual design initiatives.
  • Act as a creative problem solver as needed by helping to determine appropriate design approaches for ACT programs and productions
  • Design creative assets for digital media (i.e. social graphics, emails, landing/home pages, interactive web design).
  • Design assets for digital advertising and affiliate sites (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.).
  • Design assets for any print initiatives (i.e. packaging, in-box material, marketing collateral).
  • Stay up to date on design trends, platforms, tools, and best practices.


  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Impeccable typography and graphic design skills
  • Familiarity with preparing design files for print, digital media, and the web is required
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Experience with product development and/or packaging design, a plus
  • Experience working with After Effects, a plus
  • Experience hand lettering and/or illustrating, a plus
  • A website or portfolio is a requirement for this position
  • A personal computer is a requirement for this position

Student Choreographer

  • Candidates must have prior experience teaching specific dance styles to all ages, have great communication skills, and be able to motivate and push the cast in a positive way
  • Styles include ballet, jazz, musical theater, hip hop, lyrical, African, Indian, and any other ethnic dance forms would be an asset
  • Collaborate will work closely with the Artistic Director and must be open to workshop and improvisation to develop the choreography for the show to ensure that it complements the overall vision
  • Must be very creative and flexible
  • Applicants who are selected for an interview must be ready to show choreography that shows his/her knowledge in the styles he/she can teach

Student Stage Manager


The Student Stage Manager (SM) is key to creating an efficient and positive a production. Your ability to successfully lead and work with the theatre company.  This student position will be mentored by a professional Stage Manager so this is a great opportunity to learn and grow theatre production skills and techniques.  Your overall purpose is to work directly with the Senior Stage Manager, director, cast and production people to move a show from inception to closing. 


  • Someone who is organized.
  • Someone who knows how to solve problems.
  • Someone who is willing to learn all aspects of the theatre:  lights, sound, props, set changes, make-up changes, and special effects.
  • Someone with a firm, kind, polite, respectful, and calm manner who can encourage and lead a large number of people to achieve a high standard of backstage discipline.


  • Help organize rehearsals and performances (take attendance cast and crew)
  • Must attend all rehearsals and performances
  • Help call all rehearsals and take notes for prompt book
  • Assist with scheduling set-ups, strikes, load-ins and load-outs
  • Assist with the coordination and communication with all production leads to ensure that everyone is aligned with any production changes and updates
  • Assist with organizing the dressing rooms and backstage areas
