ACT Student Intensive: Guys & Dolls

Position: Student Choreographer

MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2017

30 hours a week June October

The student choreographer is responsible to the Director and Technical Dance Instructor for the creation of all dance movement for the production.

Duties:

  • Collaborates with Director and Technical Dance Instructor
  • Auditions the dancers and may make recommendations to the director technical dance instructor for casting
  • Schedules dance rehearsals with the director and technical dance instructor, the music director and the stage manager
  • Teaches the cast members how to execute the choreography
  • Leads choreography rehearsals
  • With the director and technical dance instructor, blocks and directs those areas of the play that move into and out of the musical numbers
  • Functions as a movement coach throughout the show, particularly if it is a period piece and a certain style of movement is required
  • Attends production meetings
  • Attends rehearsals

Position: Student Stage Manager

30 hours a week June - October

THE STUDENT STAGE MANAGER'S ROLE

The Student Stage Manager (SM) is key to creating an efficient and positive a production. Your ability to successfully lead and work with the theatre company.  This student position will be mentored by a professional Stage Manager so this is a great opportunity to learn and grow theatre production skills and techniques.  Your overall purpose is to work directly with the Senior Stage Manager, director, cast and production people to move a show from inception to closing. 

WHO MAKES A GOOD STUDENT STAGE MANAGER?

Someone who is organized.
Someone who knows how to solve problems.
Someone who is willing to learn all aspects of the theatre:  lights, sound, props, set changes, make-up changes, and special effects.
Someone with a firm, kind, polite, respectful, and calm manner who can encourage and lead a large number of people to achieve a high standard of backstage discipline.

Student stage manager duties

  • Help organize rehearsals and performances (take attendance cast and crew)
  • Must attend all rehearsals and performances
  • Help call all rehearsals and take notes for prompt book
  • Assist with scheduling set-ups, strikes, load-ins and load-outs
  • Assist with the coordination and communication with all production leads to ensure that everyone is aligned with any production changes and updates
  • Assist with organizing the dressing rooms and backstage areas

ACT Student Intensive: Guys & Dolls

Position: Student Graphic Designer & Marketing Assistant

MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2017

The Student Graphic Designer position works to create and manage the organization's creative services projects. The position reports to the Marketing Director and is responsible for maintaining high quality standards and ensuring the consistency of the ACT brand.

The Student Graphic Designer agrees to work with the staff members of Marin Theatre Company to achieve the goals set forth by the department head, to abide by the values of the organization, and to serve the mission of the theater.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualize, design and produce all print/web media related to ACT. This includes branding, logo design, brochures, posters, print ads, direct mail, email campaigns, signage and web-related media.
  • The designer’s primary focus will be marketing, but will also work on projects for other departments including Artistic, Development, and Education.
  • Manage print production and see jobs through to completion and perform press approvals as needed.
  • Manage other vendor relationships, which include illustrators and photographers • Maintain all design archive files on ACT’s dropbox
  • Assist with photo shoots as needed (this will include night photo shoots). • Attend some night functions (opening nights, producer previews and gala)
  • Must have own laptop

ACT Student Intensive: Guys & Dolls

Position: Student Costume Designer

MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2017

30 hours a week July October

The student costume designer collaborates with the director, and is responsible to the producer.

Duties:

  • Collaborates with director on establishing a costume design
  • Collaborates with director, set and lighting designers on a colour palette
  • Creates colour sketches of people and clothing that communicate the final “look” of costumes
  • Takes measurements of all cast members
  • Buys, rents or borrows costumes and accessories (shoes, hats, gloves, jewelry, purses, etc.),
  • Adapts clothing to suit a character, and the actors’ activities (safety, comfort and moveability)
  • Sews costumes if necessary
  • Attends production meetings
  • Attends first rehearsal and presents design concept
  • Attends other rehearsals as available
  • Attends costume parade, dress rehearsals, etc.
  • Coordinates dressers for costume changes
  • Arranges to repair and clean costumes during the run
  • Supervises returns of any borrowed costumes or accessories
  • Works within a budget

ACT Summer Musical Theatre Camp

Position: Assistant Director

Looking for someone with a musical theatre background who is great with youth, and available Monday's to Friday's from 8:00am - 5:00pm July 3 - 21. Students are welcome to apply.

Successful candidates will posses:

  • Interest in working with children
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Previous day camp experience is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification is a definite asset.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Musical Theatre background

Assistant Director duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Summer Camp Director in providing a fun, safe, and healthy environment for children aged 6 – 13
  • Assist the Summer Camp Director in preparing all materials/supplies for all camp activities to ensure smooth operation
  • Provide supervision and facilitate daily activities
  • Work alongside Summer Camp Director and special guest directors
  • Set-up/clean-up of facility and activities
  • Greet parents/guardians and campers on arrival and departure from camp. Providing extra assistance as needed.
  • Provide attentive supervision and guidance for all day campers
  • Exercise safety awareness and practices
  • Fill out accident/ incident reports when required and follow up as needed.
  • Be aware of any medical conditions within camp groups by reading through the medical packages distributed.
  • Respect and maintain equipment and supplies, and encourage camp participants to do the same.
  • Demonstrate and role model positive behavior at all times
  • Report to the Summer Camp Coordinator any problems, concerns or emergencies that arise during the camp
  • Communicate all pertinent information (program changes, child behavior concerns, accidents and injuries) to the parents and/or guardians of the participant in a positive and professional manner.
  • Communicate and collaborate with co-workers to provide an engaging and well- organized program.
  • Carry first aid kit at all times
