ACT celebrates the year of MOVEMENT

This year, Arts Collective Theatre is thrilled to present the year of “Movement”, a theme that examines the social, musical and political movements of the last 50 years.

We are proud to present not one, but two senior focused productions made available by the New Horizons for Seniors Program. The first show will serve as ACT’s Social Justice Theatre Project 2018 called “In Flight”, and it will run March 1 – 4.  “In Flight” documents truthful accounts of newcomer seniors as they move to Canada from their home countries around the world. The second show looks at the effect of bullying on seniors. This show will be presented in the summer of 2018.

Our 2018 ACT Community musical is the glamorous “Dreamgirls”, a show that captures the musical movement of the 1960’s. The sounds of Motown are rooted our community’s rich black history and we wanted to produce a show that highlighted that fact.  Dreamgirls follows the rise of a musical group called the Dreams, loosely based on musical groups such as the Supremes and the Marvelettes.  The shows’ overall theme is female empowerment, and these brave and talented women learn to make it on their own in a time of change. April 20 – 29 at The Capitol Theatre Windsor.

ACT is excited to announce a new program called “30 under 30”, a summer project that brings together youth 18 – 30 to develop theatre skills, be mentored by local artists, and produce a show. It is dedicated to celebrating Windsor-Essex County’s artistic talent under the age of 30. This program serves to bring together young artists and as they look for a way to continue to showcase their talent both during and post education. This year’s inaugural presentation will be “HAIR”, a show that celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. HAIR was created as a response to war, government, and social injustices during the 1960’s. It symbolized a movement that fought for social and political change. This show is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago, and that is why we chose this production to kick off our new 30 under 30 program.  We are looking forward to being part of the revolution with a new generation.  September 7 – 16 at the Capitol Theatre Windsor.

Be part of the Movement with ACT this year.  Come out and support or participate in our 2018 productions. We are looking forward to continuing to present meaningful and impactful theatre to the Windsor Essex Community.
